The 6th continent marathon is in the bag!

It was a hard-earned finisher's medal for the 6th continent marathon in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil on Sunday 7 July 2013.

I wish the story had been different.

I had no choice but to book a flight arriving in Rio de Janeiro on a Saturday morning instead of Friday, a mere day before the marathon on Sunday. The flight was most unfortunately postponed without notification to passengers and I arrived in Rio de Janeiro 8 hours later than anticipated at 2:30pm on Saturday (17 hours before the marathon) stressed and exhausted. I tried my best to rest ahead of the race but alas, the body couldn't get over the lack of rest, jet lag and stress leading up to the race.

Pain, cramps, fatigue, tears and self-doubt set in from the 11th km mark of the marathon. For the first time ever, not finishing a marathon was a real prospect but I knew I had to push on for my dream and not to disappoint those supporting me. I recalled those of you who donated towards the elderly and told myself to dedicate each kilometer to a donor. I don't really know how my legs carried me through to the end but they did so somehow.

The final timing of 4h:19m is far from my PB but I'm contented to have the 6th continent marathon in the bag.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for the support. It carried me through!!
